IN THE EVENT OF A SNOW DAY - IF WE HAVE AN E-LEARNING DAY, THE ASSIGNMENTS FOR EACH CLASS WILL BE IN THE GOOGLE CLASSROOM FOR EACH CORRESPONDING CLASS. STAY SAFE!! Google Classroom can be accessed on the students phones if they leave their Chromebook at school.

Current Issues Syllabus 2022-2023

Welcome to Current issues! As a citizen of the United States it is your responsibility to be an informed citizen. The goal of this class is to develop and instill that responsibility. A large part of being an informed citizen is keeping up on the news (local, state, national, and world). Each year we become more and more connected to the rest of the world so it's increasingly important that we monitor global affairs as well as what's going on in the U.S. Below is a general schedule we will follow on a weekly basis....

3rd Hour -- Civics 9 ---- 10:21am  - 11:21am

 : Learning about civics gives students the skills and knowledge necessary to be active citizens who have a positive impact on their communities. In this course, students discover the rights and responsibilities of citizenship in the United States. They learn about the structure of the government and how it works at the local, state, and federal levels. This course examines elections, the lawmaking process, and how citizens can impact public policy. Students also discover ways the United States interacts with countries around the world. Geography and economics support the learning of civics in this course. Engaging in this study prepares students to be informed citizens who are ready to participate in the American democracy!

(3RD TRIMESTER)---12th Grade Global Studies --- 

The focus of Global Studies 12 will be the regions of the Middle East, Europe and Latin America. Students will continue to develop skills in organizing information from primary and secondary source materials. Various forms of student presentation are emphasized, while argumentative writing receives emphasis. The course will center on the cultural conditions of the Middle Eastern world and its current regional problems, the historical development of modern Latin American society and politics, and the historical political and economic development of Europe. In particular, we will look at the process of modernization and the development of modern societies, as well as the ways in which societies, including the United States, relate to and interact with each other in the modern world.

(3RD TRIMESTER) -- History Thru Film --- 

 The History Thru Film curriculum offers students a unique way to view American history thru the Hollywood lens. ... The course will demand 12th grade-level composition work, honing student writing and revision skills as they write reaction and analysis papers to films viewed in class.

This class is not an eat popcorn and watch movie class. The goal of this class is to learn American History through watching movies. Each film consists of 6 to 8 days of class work. The class work will be split into three parts. The first area will be the introduction. At this point, we will introduce the time period and what the film is about. The second area will be the actual watching of the film with discussion. The third and final area will be the post work, which may include discussion questions, work sheets, film reviews and/or essays. This class will be a writing and research-intensive class.

You will make up any class work/ film watching if you are absent

6th Hour --- American History 7 ---- 2:10pm - 3:10pm    

Offering an interactive and comprehensive overview of American history, this course engages and inspires students to learn about the rich and diverse history of America’s native peoples, early European colonization and settlement in America, and the creation of a new nation through the American Revolution. Students enrolled in this course will closely examine major changes brought about by the nation’s reconstruction, industrialization, urbanization, and progressive reforms and will consider the implications each of these events had on the expansion of the United States’ global influence through modern times.

4th Hour --- American History 8 -- 11:24am -- 12:24pm
